This is a unique two day workshop that spans the Atlantic Ocean and attempts to bring the USAs and UKs physiotherapy professions closer together.
Hosted by Erik Meira from the USA and Adam Meakins from the UK it will look at TWO areas that often confuse and frustrate therapists the most, the hip and the shoulder. These areas will be thoroughly explored, investigated and probed by Erik and Adam in a workshop that promises to be unlike any other!
THE HIP with Erik
There will be a focus on the hip pathology in the young adult discussing intra-articular and extra-articular pathology. The goal of the course is to provide a simple framework for assessing the hip region, understanding core concepts of human movement, and developing an appropriate exercise progression for the lower quarter.
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Explore the current understanding of the mechanisms of injury in non-arthritic intra-articular hip pathology
- Perform a simple screen for hip patients that would benefit from early surgical consult versus those that can be treated conservatively
- Understand special considerations regarding extra-articular hip pathology
- Develop a targeted and streamlined exercise progression for maximal benefit
- Consider the complexity of human movement and how it applied to rehab
THE SHOULDER with Adam
There will be an overview of the most commonly encountered causes for shoulder pain. The emphasis will be on providing the clinician with a simple framework for classifying shoulder pain with evidence based strategies for their management. There will be special attention paid to exercise selection and optimal paramenters and progressions.
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Assess and diagnose the most commonly encountered shoulder issues
- Understand the myths around shoulder anatomy, biomechanics and pathology
- Understand the current evidence in the reliability and utility of the assessment tests for shoulder issues
- Examine how best to assess shoulder muscle strength, proprioception, and its kinetic chain
- Develop a comprehensive rehab plan with an individual approach and adequate progressions
